About Trabuco Canyon, California
Over the course of a year, the weather in Trabuco Canyon ranges from 43F to 81F, rarely going below 36F or above 89F, making this a truly desirable area to live. What makes Trabuco Canyon Unique
There is a story about a Franciscan friar who, while traveling with the Gaspar de Portola Expedition in 1796, lost a blunderbuss (a type of shotgun) in the area. Trabuco is Spanish for blunderbuss, thus the area was named Trabuco Canyon! It is also the site of tin mining in the early 1900’s and the remains from the mining activity include several dams on the creek, an ore-processing stamp mill, and various tunnels into the sides of the canyon (now closed for safety).
Local Flavor
Gather your family and friends on the Fourth of July and watch the old-fashioned parade of locals riding horses and pulling home-made floats. Then take them to dine at one of Richard Nixon’s favorite restaurants, the Trabuco Oaks Steak House.
The lovely Trabuco Canyon Community Church welcomes everyone, and in 1942 the renowned author and philosopher Gerald Heard founded the Ramakrishna Mission Monastery on 40 acres. The Ramakrishna Mission Monastery is part of the rich history of the Vedanta Society of Southern California.
